What does a magic consultant do?
You want more than just tricks. You want wonder that works.
Chris can bring over 20 years of magic, theatrical, producing and problem solving experience to your project to help bring magic to life.
Why Bring a Magic Consultant Into Your Production?
When you want magic that matters, you need someone who knows how to weave it into the very fabric of your show. That’s where I come in.
With years of experience performing around the world—and consulting on everything from West End shows to Cirque du Soleil—I help directors, creatives, and producers bring unforgettable moments of wonder to life. Whether it’s building brand-new illusions or coaching performers to look like seasoned magicians, I tailor every magical moment to suit your story, characters, and creative vision.
I don’t just drop in a trick. I make the magic feel like it’s always belonged.
What I Bring:
Custom Illusion Design: Whether it’s a touring stage show, a theatre production, or a TV moment, I create bespoke effects that support the tone and style of your world—never generic, always story-first.
Performer Coaching: I work closely with your cast—regardless of experience—to make them look slick, confident, and natural performing magic, whether it’s on stage or on screen.
Creative Collaboration: From Cirque du Soleil to The Illusionists, I’ve worked closely with directors, choreographers, and designers to make sure the magic enhances, not overshadows, the rest of the work. I speak stage, screen, and tour.
Solutions, Not Setbacks: Magic can be complex. I simplify. Whether you’re dealing with touring limitations, cast changes, or tight camera angles, I bring practical, flexible answers that keep the magic working night after night.
Fresh Ideas with Real Impact: I combine years of experience as a performer and creator to push illusions beyond what audiences expect—while keeping everything grounded, achievable, and genuinely jaw-dropping.
Why use a magic consultant?
Good question, I’m glad you asked because it’s not just about adding tricks to your show (although of course, it can be that) —it’s about infusing it with creativity and wonder. By bringing Chris on board, you’re inviting another visionary into your team, someone who can tackle challenges in a truly magical and theatrical way. Think of it as adding a new color to your palette, enriching your production with unique solutions and captivating moments.
How does a magic consultant like Chris Cox work?
Chris works in a truly collabrative process with the whole team. Magic effects are rarely just one thing, they rely on joined up communication and thought between lightings, sound, costume and of course set to seamlessly integrate magic effects into the show. Chris delves into your vision and, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for innovation, finds unique theatrical and magical solutions to leave an audience spellbound. From making a ghost appear, to having the same cast member in two places at once and everything in-between. Using a magic consultant is all about finding unique solutions and creating wow moments that leave a lasting impression on an audience.
What sort of effects has Chris created?
Well it’s a long list, but here’s a few highlights. Floating boxes, appearing ghosts, disappearing ghosts, flying ghosts, chains going through a body, making cast members vanish and reappear, mind reading menus, appearing gingerbread houses, mind reading Santas, floating taps, turning wooden toys into cuddly ones, magical leans, interactive mind reader, audience participation effects, narrative based appearance of props, floating and flying leaves, appearing broomsticks, empty beds suddenly becoming full, water to wine and a lot, lot more. There’s a reason Time Out once said ‘Chris Cox does tricks that would make Jesus proud!”
